The Panhandle Masonic Cowboy Hall of Fame is a virtual Museum, blending an online presence with actual Museum displays.
An outgrowth of several brainstorming sessions at District 98 Masters, Wardens and Secretary’s Association meetings, the newly formed Panhandle Masonic Cowboy Hall of Fame Association just completed it’s inaugural Hall of Fame Inductions. Over a year of formation, organization, and planning culminated Saturday October 21st, 2023 at White Deer Land Museum in Pampa.
The Association is uniting Panhandle Masonic Lodges through our shared history of the Texas Panhandle. The history of the early Masonic Lodges is forever tied to the history of the settlement of the Panhandle. All Lodges may recommend any Mason for induction to the Hall of Fame. By drawing public attention to Masons whose lives have been contributions to their communities, modern Masons are presenting Masonry in a contemporary context illustrating Masonry’s timeless relevance.
Please take time to visit the Associations website. We’re excited to share this venue with the public, and by learning about these celebrated Masons, we hope to give you a deeper understanding of the shared traits and values among Masonic Brothers. We are especially proud of our first year Celebration and are very please to present it to you, via our website.
For our first year Celebration, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Texas Rangers, the Hall of Fame introduced 6 Texas Rangers who were Panhandle Masons as the inaugural inductees. Four of those Rangers were among the original “Frontier Rangers”. One Ranger, Bill Baten served his community of Pampa and the surrounding area from the 60’s to the 90’s with such distinction, a unit at the State Prison facility is named after him. The living Ranger, Robert Madeira, was born in Pampa and solved one of the city of Houston’s oldest cold cases, which was written about in the best selling book “Honor Thy Mother” by Rick Boychuk. All of these Ranger Masons lived in Gray, Wheeler and Hemphill Counties.
We are grateful to Pampa’s White Deer Land Museum for hosting our 200 Years of Texas Rangers and Masons display until March 2024. The Museum and staff were an instrumental partner in creating the exhibit for the Panhandle Masonic Cowboy Hall of Fame.
